The River to River Trail Society is an Illinois non-profit organization founded in 1993 by John O'Dell, for the purpose of promoting completion of the River-to-River Trail, which now runs 144 miles from Eliizabethtown, Illinois on the Ohio River to Grand Tower, Illinois on the Mississippi. The RTR Trail is open year-round for use by both hikers and horsemen.
The Society engages in advocacy, maintenance, and promotion for the RTR Trail. During the past two years the Society has joined with the USDA Forest Service, as well as with other community groups and governmental agencies, to map and mark the entire length of the Trail. In conjunction with this project, the Society has completed and made available a new (5th) edition of its Trail Guide to the entire Trail. This Trail Guide is available to all, free of charge, through the Society's website at www.rivertorivertrail.net. Moreover, the Society offers a schedule of free guided hikes open to the public every Spring and Fall. These hikes, like all the Society's activities, are conducted by volunteers who donate their time to promoting Southern Illinois tourism and outdoor recreation. |
