Green Earth, Inc. is a Carbondale-based nonprofit that owns and maintains six nature preserves within the Carbondale area. Their mission is "To Preserve Natural Areas for the Benefit of the people of Carbondale"
Over 220 acres and 9 miles of hiking trails are available to the public for outdoor recreation during daylight hours. Most trails are approximately 1.0 mile in length, are easy to moderate in difficulty, and are maintained in a rustic state, however, the Chautauqua Bottoms preserve also offers an ADA-Friendly trail. With hard-packed trail surfaces and ramped elevation changes, those with limited mobility will find this trail easier to navigate.
Green Earth sites are maintained by volunteers and supported financially by donations from the local community - these preserves are truly a community endeavor!
